What is the Elder Safe Program?
Avamere at Bethany, an independent living, assisted living, and memory care community in Portland, Oregon, is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Based at the Sheriff’s Office, the Elder Safe Program collaborates with the District Attorney’s Office and the Disability, Aging & Veteran Services and city police departments to coordinate services.
How to get involved
There are two opportunities to get involved with the Elder Safe Program and its partnership with Avamere at Bethany.
The Elder Safe Program – Washington County Sheriff’s Office
Friday, March 19, 1:00 p.m.
Learn about this unique Washington County program, geared specifically to support our 65 and older population. Closely aligned with the county justice system, the Elder Safe Program assists older adult victims of abuse, fraud, and crime. They also work with the public through prevention education. Elder Safe Coordinator, Corrine Haning, will give an overview, provide a few tips on what to do if you suspect a scam, and touch on their Help Me Home and Project Lifesaver programs, specific to those who may be at-risk of wandering.
Outsmarting Scammers
Wednesday, March 31, 1:00 p.m.
Take a deeper dive into why and how scammers engage in fraud and what you can do to outsmart them! No “tech savvy skills” needed: it can be as simple as letting a phone call go to voicemail first or hanging up on a suspicious caller. Join Washington County Sheriff’s Office Elder Safe Coordinator, Corrine Haning, to learn about some of the latest scams related to COVID-19, tools for recognizing a scam, and when and where to report.
Avamere residents we will be hosting both meetings via Zoom and will join together in our the Avamere at Bethany theater room for the presentation and Q&A. If any Avamere family or friends would like to join the meetings, we are more than happy to send you a Zoom link. For more information and to get involved, contact Zoe Hoffman or call 503-690-2402.
